Roger was born in London, Ontario in l954. Throughout school he was usually the top art student in every class, receiving top marks since the early grades. When Roger was 11, his family moved to Vancouver. Being impressed by the beautiful mountain scenery, he began painting it just as it appeared. He took all the art classes available and upon graduation teachers and friends encouraged him to keep painting.

David Young, a noteworthy handicapped artist who paints with his mouth, helped Roger with professional composition and colour-mixing. He also received invaluable training from his uncle in Holland, resulting in his applying the quality of original European styles to handling North American beauty from alpine lakes and mountains to the Okanagan Valley.

Despite all this, however, Roger remained somewhat stubborn about maintaining his style and continued to paint the mountains and valleys as they are. He always paints subjects that exist in reality, striving to capture the immense beauty that exists in the West.

Roger is a busy, full time artist, always working to keep up with the demand for his beautifully detailed oils.
