The Evans Gallery and FramingPresenting the Bronze Sculpture of Linda KellyLinda Kelly was born in Calgary and transplanted to British Columbia in the mid seventies. Having owned and ridden horses for more than twenty years, she is able to accurately sculpt these majestic reatures in their varied stances. Adding people and other animals to her compositions has opened wide ranges of possibilities for Linda and she looks forward to presenting them in future bronzes.
Linda does all her own wax chasing and by having access to a local foundry is able to be present during he various stages of the casting process. The lost wax casting process is a difficult and time consuming one. A mold is made from the original work and wax is poured in to the mold at 160 °F. The wax s then pulled from the mold and hand chased or re-detailed. Each piece differs slightly from the next. Then, a ceramic mold is created and "burnt out" at 1800 °F. The wax is melted and molten bronze is poured into the ceramic shell. When the ceramic shell is broken, the raw bronze sculpture is ready for polishing, patina, waxing and mounting.
